Personal branding is big buzz.

Everybody’s talking about it, but many aren’t
clear on what it is and how it can help you.

In this competitive economy, does building your
personal brand really make a difference?

Here’s what you need to know.

What is a personal brand?

A personal brand is the thoughts, feelings, and emotions that you have when you hear somebody’s name.

It’s their perception of you. Your reputation. Your personal brand isn’t what you say it is, but it’s what other people say it is.

Your brand is constantly sending out hundreds of snippets of dialogue and conversation, and people are forming impressions about you.

You can’t control your brand, but you can manage and influence it.

Why do you need a personal brand?

Your personal brand is what makes you remarkably different, memorable and believable.

It’s unique to you. It’s your DNA and nobody else has it.

Without bringing your personal brand to life, you blend in with those around you.

You’re bland,“me-too-ish,” and plain Jane. People who need you, have no reason to choose you over everybody else.

Chances are good they don’t even notice you.

In this economy, it’s not enough to be the best at what you do. You need something more. You need an edge, that unique and compelling value that only you have, and that’s found in your personal brand.

The most important thing your personal brand can do for you is to attract, engage and captivate your target audience so they believe there is no substitute for you. You become the only choice.

If you’re an aspiring professional, your personal brand can position you as the unique expert in your niche, so you become the only choice for the job promotion.

If you’re a service provider such as an optometrist, a personal trainer, or a consultant, your unique brand creates a stronger emotional connection with your customers so they choose you and keep coming back for more.

The one thing the competition will never have is YOU.

How do you get a personal brand?

The good news is, you already have a brand.
It just needs to be uncovered, polished up, and infused with energy.

It does take work, and it’s not for everybody. But if you’re ready to enrich and make a difference in your work and life, and you’re willing to dig deep with creativity and fervor, then personal branding is for you.
