This is a common question that I get asked all the time: Should I build a Facebook Page or Profile to promote my business?

I’m surprised to see so many people still
enthusiastically promoting their business on their
Facebook profile rather than their page.

“All my friends are on my Facebook profile,” you
tell me. “I could never get them all to switch over.”

“Does it REALLY matter,” you ask?

YES!

The answer is simple, and quite honestly critical
if you want to grow your business.

First, let’s get clear on the differences between
a Facebook page and a profile.

A Facebook profile is for individuals to connect
with friends and is strictly for personal use.
If Facebook discovers you are using your profile to
promote your business, they will terminate it.

Boom.
Just like that it can be gone.
And it happens.
Is it worth the risk?

A Facebook page is for businesses and
organizations to communicate with your audiences
and publicly promote your business. Examples would
be a company, a store, a celebrity, a sales rep
for a direct selling business, a consultant, sports teams, etc.

If you are promoting your business, you need to do
it on a Facebook page. Your friends are not your
customers. People who like your page are your
targeted audience, because they choose to like
you, and choose to be there to learn more about your business.

You can build relationship and trust with
them, and they will keep coming back for more.

Here are 3 top benefits you get from using a page:

  1. Indexed by Search Engines.
This means that people have a greater chance of
finding you. You’ve probably noticed when you
search for a business that Facebook pages are often
included as some of the top results. The more likes, shares and
engagement you have the higher you will rank.
  2. Analytics.
This is a free tool that comes with your page, which
    allows you to track engagement.
You can learn which posts get the highest engagement,
so you know what content is most compelling
to your audience. You can see where the people are
coming from to your page, and what they’re doing. This allows you to be a smart marketer so you know
what to do more of and less of.
  3. Advertising.
You can grow your followers with highly targeted ads,
including interests, lifestyle, employment and more.
Done right, it’s one of the most effective and affordable
    means of advertising.

There are many other benefits, but these 3 alone should convince
you that if you’re serious about building your business, make the switch to a page,
if you haven’t already.
